Location | Leyland |
Located south of Preston, in nearby Leyland, the South Ribble Museum and Exhibition Centre is a fine spot for local history and varied exhibitions. Housed in the town's wonderfully quirky and historically appealing old grammar school, founded by Sir Henry Farington back in 1524, this hidden gem makes an interesting and historical day out.
Hosting changing exhibitions and talks throughout the year, the South Ribble Museum is more than a one-off visit.
South Ribble through the centuries
The South Ribble Museum's collections go back even further than the building's six centuries of history. Inside you'll find topics ranging from 20th century industry to the area's architecture and landscape - as well as the area's cultural, civic, and social history. From the Ffarington family of Worden to King Cotton himself, history unfolds within.
Activities programme
The South Ribble Museum has a busy programme of activities and workshops that are free of charge and open to all. Activities take place most Saturday mornings, some for children and some for adults. Workshops and demonstrations also take place regularly and include watercolour painting, embroidery, clock making, origami, and photography.
