Beacon Fell Country Park
Beacon Fell Country Park was designed in 1970, making it one of the oldest country parks in England.
Located only 10 miles outside of Preston city centre, signposted from Garstang and Longridge, Beacon Fell is a wildlife haven of woodland, moorland and farmland. The habitats attract a mix of animals, from rabbits and hare to roe deer and stout. There are even as many as 11 species of dragonflies and damselflies, which can be seen hovering over ponds during the summer months.
Beacon Fell's views across the Forest of Bowland, from the 266m summit, attract both individuals and families looking for adventure outdoors. The country park's well-maintained paths, stunning views, and relaxed picnic areas make the experience all that more special. Whether before or after your ramble, there is also a visitor centre and café to pay a visit to. And, If you're after something different or engaging for children, make sure to follow the sculpture trail, which features a number of carved wooden animals.
Visitor centre and cafe
The Bowland Visitor Centre at Beacon Fell Country Park was awarded with a prestigious gold standard award by the Green Tourism Business Scheme. The award commends the quality of information for visitors and the encouragement of children to explore and learn about the natural environment.
Make sure to pay the visitor centre and cafe a visit for maps, advice, and for drinks and a bite to eat.

Sculpture trail
A great addition to any walk, Beacon Fell's sculpture trail is great for both adults and children. The sculptures are carved by local artist Thompson Dagnall and depict different types of wildlife, including a snake and an owl.
Pack a picnic and get exploring to see which creatures you can find.
Woodland trail
Beacon Fell's woodland trail takes you past Larch Avenue, Shield Wood, Tarn Wood, Middle Wood, and to the summit. This route takes around 40 minutes to complete and includes diverse species of trees and habitats.
Dog policy
Dogs are welcome at Beacon Fell provided they are kept under close control and out of the wildlife ponds. Sheep can be grazing at certain times of the year and dog waste should be bagged and disposed of responsibly.
