Boilton Wood

Part of the biggest and longest stretch of ancient woodland in Lancashire, Boilton Wood is designated as a site of special scientific interest. The woodland can be accessed through Brockholes Nature Reserve and is a great destination to round off a day of exploring the great outdoors.

Boilton Wood makes a truly special visit and an exceptionally special visit during Springtime, with a carpet of Bluebells covering the woodland floor. The exploring doesn't have to end there, you'll also find Pope Lane Field, Grange Park and Grange Valley Nature Reserve nearby.

Habitat and wildlife

Boilton Wood is a woodland habitat, believed to have covered the slope above the River Ribble for thousands of years. When venturing through the woodland, those fortunate enough may catch a glimpse of Roe Deer. The wood is also a top spot for types of fungi, nestling at the foot of the trees.

How to get there

Access can be found for Boilton Wood across Pope Lane Field. Turn right at the roundabout along Blackpool Road. At the first set of traffic lights turn right into Miller Road, past two rows of shops where Miller Road becomes Pope Lane. Vehicles may be parked at the end of Pope Lane and access to the Local Nature Reserve is on foot over the motorway bridge.

The site can also be accessed through Brockholes Nature Reserve.
