This Mother's Day - Sunday 30 March - there are plenty of ways to treat your mum across the city. From wonderful workshops to indulgent spa experiences, live music performances and relaxing countryside strolls, you're sure to find the perfect way to show your mum you care. There are also some amazing places to eat and drink with many serving the failsafe gift of afternoon tea

1. Bowling and cinema trip - Animate 

Why not put your mum's bowling skills to the test at Animate, Preston's newest state of the art leisure and entertainment complex. And afterwards, wind down with a movie at Arc Cinema, which will take your film viewing to the next level. The venue also has a great array of eats for those after the full eat, play, watch experience!

2. Mother's Day Afternoon Tea - Ribble Steam Railway and Museum

Date/time - Sunday 30 March (11am - 5pm)
Cost - various

Celebrate Mother's Day at the Ribble Steam Railway with a traditional Afternoon Tea.

Consisting of sandwiches, cakes and jam and cream scones served in the Royal Saloon, and for an extra special treat you can also include a glass of prosecco.

Trains depart every hour throughout the day from Preston Riverside Station from 11am to 4pm with Afternoon Tea being served on 1pm and 3pm trains. Tickets for Afternoon Tea also allow for travel on other trains throughout the day.

As Mother's Day coincides with the Spring Steam Gala there will be plenty of engines in steam and lots of other things to see and do.

3. Seamus McLoughlin acoustic set - Chew's Yard

Date/time - Saturday 29 March (2pm - 4pm)
Cost - free

Seamus Mcloughlin has cemented himself into local folklore with his excellent guitar play, immense vocal range, and genuine on-stage charm.

Live highlights include playing a set at SXSW festival in Texas and over the years he has gigged long and hard across the UK and USA.

4. John Bailey jazz afternoon - Chew's Yard

Date/time - Sunday 30 March (from 3pm)
Cost - free 

Join Chew's Yard this Mother's Day, as UK jazz guitarist John Bailey presents some of the finest Jazz musicians in the UK, paying homage to the jazz greats.

From 3pm, John Bailey (Guitar) alongside Richard Iles (Trumpet), Gary Culshaw (Bass) and Steve Hanley (Drums) pay a tribute to Miles Davis.

5. Mother's Day Afternoon Tea - Samlesbury Hall

Date/time - Sunday 30 March (1pm, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm)
Cost - £35 (adults) £18 (children)

Spoil your mum with a superbly scrumptious and delightfully delicious afternoon tea in their 700-year-old historic hall. Their special Mother's Day afternoon tea comes with a glass of fizz (or non-alcoholic fizz)!

6. Living Spring Wreath Workshop - Barton Grange

Under the guidance of an experienced florist, you'll learn how to craft a stunning living wreath using a handpicked selection of seasonal bulbs, fresh flowers and foliage. 7. Introduction to Trees - Guided Walk - Brockholes

Date/time - Saturday 29 March (10:30am - 12:30pm)
Cost - Free

If your mum is the nature loving sort, then join the guided walk leaders at Brockholes for a fascinating insight into the trees that inhabit the reserve.

The walk is at a gentle pace, with lots of stopping to take a closer look at tree species. 

Children are welcome but must be accompanied and supervised by an adult.

8. Mother's Day afternoon tea - Hoghton Tower

Date/time - Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 March

Treat your mum to a delicious, traditional afternoon tea in the historic setting of Hoghton Tower. Choose from the beautiful oak panelled Billiard Room with it's warm and cosy open fire or for an extra special treat, dine in the splendour of the magnificent Banqueting Hall, where King James I feasted in 1617 and famously knighted a loin of beef.
